Eugene Peterson's paraphrase, The Message translated Matthew 11:28-30:
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Jesus calls those who are tired, worn out, and burned out people to come to Jesus. Jesus will walk with you, work with you, and even show you how to do it. You are not alone. In this sermon, Pastor Joon encourages listeners to do whatever we are doing in life with Jesus, even when we are doing things that are overwhelming or burdensome. When we do them with Jesus, He will walk with us and gives us a sense of peace and rest.
Pastor Joon also challenges the listeners that the horizontal issues we have with people are first and foremost our disconnection to Jesus. When we are connected to Jesus, we receive the fruit of the Spirit to reflect the Christlikeness to others.
